CO 80215, USA Received 14 January 2005; received in revised form 17 May 2005; a~~epted 1 June 200S Available online 20 December 2005 The recognition and characterization of aeolian dust in soi l contribute 10 a better understanding of landscape and ecosystem dynamics or dryJands. Results of this study show that recently deposi ted dust, sampled in isolated, mostly high-ground sett ings, is chemically and mineralogically similar on va ried geologic substrates over a large area (ISOOOkml) in the Mojave Deserl. The sill-plus-clay rraction (fines) on these isolated surraces is closely alike in magnetic-mineral composition, in contrast to greatly dissimilar magnctic compositions or rock surraees or vastly different lithologies, on which the fines have accumulatc:d . The fines, thus, are predominantly deposited dust. The amounts of potential nutrients in the sampled dust are much more unironn than might be provided by direct, local weathering o f bedrock or by dust locally derived rrom nearby weathered products. The compositional similarity or the dust on these surraces is interpreted to result from mixing of fines in the atmosphere as well as in fluvial , alluvial, and lacustrine depositional settings prior to dust emission. Aeolian dust in Colorado Plateau soils: nutrient inputs and recent change in source.

Aeolian dust (windblown silt and clay) is an important component in arid-land ecosystems because it may contribute to soil formation and furnish essential nutrients. Few geologic surfaces, however, have been characterized with respect to dust-accumulation history and resultant nutrient enrichment. We have developed a combination of methods to identify the presence of aeolian dust in arid region...

A study on Isatis suspension trap efficiency; Advantages and disadvantages

Different types of sediment trap have been introduced so far to be used in erosion measuring stations, each with its own advantages and disadvantages in trapping aeolian particles. These traps have different collection and retention efficiency due to aerodynamic conditions. Some characteristics such as isokinetic feature of the trap, collection efficiency, time needed to download sediment, capa...
